Jeet Kune Do Is Coming to Top Notch

Welcoming Sifu Tommy Steele — January 2027

We are proud to announce that Sifu Tommy Steele will be joining the Top Notch family in January 2027, bringing his teaching of Jeet Kune Do (JKD) to Kelowna for the first time as a dedicated program.

This is a very special addition to the Top Notch community.

Tommy has been teaching martial arts since the early 1980s and brings more than four decades of experience to his teaching. His martial arts journey includes many years of training under Sifu Leo Fong, placing Tommy within a second-generation Jeet Kune Do lineage connected to Bruce Lee.

Jeet Kune Do was developed by Bruce Lee as an approach to martial arts built around adaptability, efficiency, simplicity and personal expression. Rather than being confined to a rigid system, JKD encourages the practitioner to understand martial arts deeply and develop the ability to adapt.

Tommy brings his own decades of experience, knowledge and interpretation to the art while continuing to pass forward the principles and lessons he has learned throughout his journey.

A New Path at Top Notch

At Top Notch, Muay Thai will always be at the heart of what we do. But we also believe that becoming a better martial artist means being willing to learn from different teachers, different styles and different traditions.

That’s why we’re excited to provide a home for Tommy and his Jeet Kune Do program.

This will be a dedicated JKD program under the Top Notch roof, open to both existing Top Notch members and members of the wider Kelowna and Okanagan community.

Whether you’re completely new to martial arts, a longtime Bruce Lee and JKD enthusiast, or an experienced martial artist looking to expand your knowledge, Tommy’s program will provide an opportunity to study directly with an instructor carrying a unique martial arts lineage and decades of teaching experience.

More Than Just Another Class

Our goal isn’t simply to add another class to the schedule.

We want to help grow the martial arts community in Kelowna.

We want our Muay Thai students to have the opportunity to cross-train in JKD. We want JKD practitioners to experience Muay Thai. And we want martial artists from different backgrounds to have a place where they can train, share knowledge and learn from one another.

Different styles. Different teachers. Different lineages. One martial arts community.
